The Bite: Cheesy Biscuits & Gravy Casserole Recipe

Holy moly, how is it Friday already? You know that means, don’t you? It’s Food-Love Friday. Our second favorite day of the week (#WomanCrushWednesday is #1, obviously), and our team’s second favorite F word.

The first one being Food of course. Thankfully, we took two of our favorite F words and tossed them in a skillet, melted them together, and created what we like to call Food Love Fridays. If it’s your first one, welcome! Want to check out more of our recipes before diving into this delectable dish, check them all out here.

But I know a lot of you came here for the good stuff, and this recipe my friend, is the good stuff. It’s got biscuits, it’s got gravy, and obviously (I’m from Wisconsin), it’s got cheese. Put it all together, and you’ve got a brunch dish that will leave you feeling oh-so satisfied, but still craving more. The savory and salty flavors from the sausage gravy combined with the sweetness in the biscuits, and topped with cheese no less? This recipe seriously has it all so keep scrolling to check it out, and then immediately add all of these ingredients to your grocery list.

Cheesy Biscuits & Gravy Casserole

Prep Time 30 Minutes Prep, 60 Minutes Total | 8 Servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pork breakfast sausage

  • 3 cups milk

  • 1 can (16.3oz) buttermilk biscuits

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese (or your choice)

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉. Spray cooking spray on a 13x9-inch baking dish, glass preferred.

  2. In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Once thoroughly cooked and browned, transfer sausage to the baking dish.

  3. Add butter to the skillet (don’t clean) and melt over medium heat. Add salt, pepper, and flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until beginning to brown and thickening. Stir in the milk, and continue to stir as you bring the mixture to a simmer. Continue to cook and stir for another 1-3 minutes until thickened. Pour mixture over sausage in the baking dish.

  4. Separate the buttermilk biscuit dough into 8 individual biscuits. Cut each of those individual biscuits into fourths and place over the sausage and gravy mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle cheese to cover as desired.

  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and biscuits are golden brown.
